Closure of CCIP
The Intergenerational Strategy in Wales
The University of Glamorgan has undertaken a review of the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University and is implementing a number of structural and staffing changes which means it will not be possible for CCIP to continue to be hosted by the University. In particular, the restructuring process has meant that the posts of the staff who are seconded to work part-time with CCIP are to be made redundant. As a consequence of these changes CCIP will be closed at the University with effect from August 1st 2009.
To build on what has already been achieved we will appoint from August 1st a part time intergenerational development worker in both the North and South of Wales to work alongside Local Authorities and Voluntary and Community Sector organisations to support them in developing their local agendas and in sharing and developing resources and learning. One of the criteria for appointing the worker to North Wales is they will need to be fluent in Welsh. We will also continue to develop the targeted work we are undertaking with Local Authorities to enable them to develop their own intergenerational action plans.
To make the best use of resources that are available to support the development of intergenerational work in Wales we are not going to re-establish a separate Centre. Instead we will appoint a part-time administrator for Wales to be based at the Centre for Intergenerational Practice at the Beth Johnson Foundation who will be responsible for ensuring that we still produce the newsletter, e-bulletins and resource sharing. We will bring the current CIP and CCIP websites together to share resources as much as possible but there will be a defined bilingual Welsh section. This will sit alongside the European Intergenerational Website that we plan to launch later this year and so locate the work in Wales as part of a European wide development.
We will also establish a national intergenerational steering group for Wales of key stakeholders to shape and promote the development of the intergenerational strategy and work for Wales.
