15 Local Authorities are now participating in the Learning and Development programme through workshops hosted by Hampshire County Council, Nottinghamshire City Council and Bradford Council

NFER intergenerational practice: outcomes and effectiveness This research looks at what works in intergenerational practice. Five intergenerational projects were selected to cover a range of foci and target groups. Proformas, semi-structured interviews and discussion groups were completed with younger and older participants, providers and relevant local authority (LA) staff.

European Map of Intergenerational Learning (EMIL) 2012 has been proposed as European Year of Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity and developments are taking place across Europe as people engage in planning and thinking about how our societies will support and engage with citizens of all ages in the future. A call for papers on intergenerational practice Working with Older People is calling for papers on intergenerational practice. From June 2010 to Feb 2011 we will be publishing a series on intergenerational practice with examples of national and international good practice.

'Bringing Generations Together: Leeds' Intergenerational Approach' On the 26th April, Leeds City Council launched ‘Bringing Generations Together: Leeds’ Intergenerational Approach’ at Leeds Central Library. We hope that this document will raise the profile of the effectiveness of intergenerational approaches, providing examples that identify how intergenerational practice can meet key existing objectives, targets and priorities for both local and national, and highlight the benefits of intergenerational work across Leeds. Intergenerational solidarity - the way forward Proposals from the NGO Coalition calls for 2012 to become ‘EU Year for Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity’ Our plea, we call on the European institutions and Member States to support the launch of a European Year on Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity in 2012 and to agree a ten year European Action Plan to help the EU develop a fair and sustainable social model that includes all generations and is sustainable in the long term. Generations Together programme up and running The Manchester Generations Together programme involves 13 projects based around the four themes of shared spaces, shared skills and learning, health and wellbeing and families and all involve younger and older people working together. Intergenerational Futures inquiry report launched - December 2009 Early in 2009, the Intergenerational Futures All Party Parliamentary Group decided to carry out an inquiry which would investigate concerns around intergenerational fairness, employment policy and practice. Following collation of evidence the final report offers conclusion and recommendations to Government and employers. Vetting and Barring Scheme halted for review The new Vetting and Barring Scheme, which was due to be phased in to replace the current Criminal Records Checking system from next month, has now been halted by the government and will be re-modelled.To read in more detail go to the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) website.

Evaluating Intergenerational Projects: A Practical Guide to Useful Resources The Beth Johnson Foundation Centre for Intergenerational Practice (CIP) has produced a new guide, which is a practical support for people involved in intergenerational projects. NAAPS Homeshare Practice Guide Launched in 2006, the Homeshare Practice Guide outlined key steps for an effective Homeshare Programme. Since 2006, NAAPS have worked in partnership with two local authorities, West Sussex and Oxfordshire, to establish two new Homeshare programmes with the aim of piloting the Practice Guide and testing out the Homeshare model. The pilot programmes have been evaluated resulting in a revised edition of the Homeshare Practice Guide 2009 which is available on the website: www.homeshare.org.uk
